The SBU has collected new evidence against high-ranking military officials of the aggressor country who committed war crimes at the beginning of the full-scale war.

We are talking about massive racist attacks on the civilian infrastructure of Sumy region during March 5-10, 2022. Then the occupiers struck more than 20 times with FAB-500 high-explosive bombs, destroying and damaging residential buildings, a school, a kindergarten and a health center.

The enemy bombardment killed 15 civilians from the Sumy city community, including children. Five residents of the community received injuries of varying severity.

According to the case file, the order for the air attack was given by the commander of the Western Military District of the Russian Federation, Colonel General Alexander Zhuravlev.

According to the investigation, he planned the strike on civilian targets in the northeastern region of Ukraine together with his first deputy, Lieutenant General Alexei Zavizion.

The defendants also involved in the commission of a war crime:

SBU officers detained all three defendants red-handed when they were receiving regular bribes for fake medical reports.

During the searches, the SBU found drafts, personal files of recruits and smartphones with evidence of illegal activity.

SBU investigators have now served them suspicion notices under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

◾ Part 3 of Art. 368 (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official)
◾ Article 114-1, part 1 (obstruction of the lawful activities of the Armed Forces and other military formations).

The offenders are in custody. They face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The operation was conducted by the SBU Office in Odesa region under the procedural supervision of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region.

He is remembered as a bright man, full of ideas, enthusiasm and kindness. He was the soul of any company, a reliable friend who always supported, inspired and gave joy.

Unfortunately, on August 29, 2024, while performing his military duty on a ship, Ihor Tkach was killed during an enemy shelling.
