The SBU evidence base helped to sentence another agent of Russian military intelligence (better known as GRU) to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property, who was detained in the fall of 2024 in Sumy region.

According to the investigation, the offender was tracking the locations of the Defense Forces in the northeastern region, where the Russians were preparing air strikes and artillery shelling.

The enemy agent turned out to be a contract soldier of one of Ukraine's military units recruited by the Russian game, who had left his place of service without permission.

After escaping from his permanent location, the deserter began looking for "quick money" in Telegram channels. There, he came to the attention of Russian military intelligence, which promised him money in exchange for his cooperation.

Initially, the agent was in Vinnytsia region, where he was scouting the area and tracking the positions of radar stations and mobile fire groups defending the region's airspace.

The occupiers planned to use this intelligence to prepare a new series of missile and drone attacks on the critical infrastructure of the region, bypassing Ukrainian air defense.

Subsequently, the enemy accomplice was transferred to Sumy region, where he rented an apartment near the Russian border for two weeks.

There, the agent posed as an "active duty soldier" to gain the trust of the locals. In this way, he hoped to collect information about the locations of Ukrainian defenders.

Later, the attacker was supposed to set fire to relay cabinets at Ukrzaliznytsia sites to complicate transportation logistics to the front line.

SBU officers exposed the traitor and detained him.

Based on the evidence collected by SBU investigators, the agent was found guilty under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

▪️ part 2, article 111 (high treason committed under martial law);
▪️ part 2 of Article 113 (sabotage committed under martial law);
▪️ part 4 of Article 408 (desertion committed under martial law).

We, the Special Operations Forces, are proud to be a part of such an event as Chervona Ruta. We have a lot in common. The resistance movement begins with the call of our souls. That is why it is important for us to be involved in those actions that allow us to shape the consciousness of Ukrainians together with representatives of culture.

Vasyl Lopata was born on April 28, 1941, in the village of Nova Basan in Chernihiv region. In 1970, he graduated from the Kyiv Art Institute, and in 1970-1972 he improved his skills at the USSR Academy of Arts. His illustrations can be seen in the works of Lina Kostenko, Ivan Franko, Taras Shevchenko, Oles Honchar, and other classics. In his sixth decade of life, Lopata discovered a new facet of his talent - painting, creating the paintings "Eternal Call," "Annunciation," "Resurrection of Christ" and a number of symbolic portraits in San Francisco.
