SBU and National Police detain Russian agent who committed terrorist attack in Zhytomyr region in hot pursuit

SBU CI and the National Police detained a Russian agent who committed a terrorist attack in Zhytomyr region on September 14.

It was a detonation of an improvised explosive device (IED) in one of the districts of Korostyshiv. A 34-year-old local resident died as a result of the incident.

Law enforcement officers detained the suspect within 8 hours of the attack.

According to the case file, the perpetrator of the crime was a 31-year-old drug addict from Zhytomyr, who was recruited by Russian special services in Telegram channels, where he was looking for money for a "dose".

In exchange for the promise of "quick money", the suspect agreed to prepare a terrorist attack. For conspiracy purposes, the agent first rented an apartment in the regional center, and then purchased components for the manufacture of an IED under the guise of household purchases.

Following the instructions of the racists, the offender manufactured explosives, equipped them with a mobile phone for remote detonation and disguised them as a fire extinguisher.

After that, the offender planted the IED in a cache, covered it with garbage, and sent the coordinates to the curator.

The agent installed a camera with remote access in front of the victim's house so that the racists could track his arrival at the place of the planned attack and activate the explosives.

During the searches, the detainee's smartphone with evidence of his contacts with the Russian secret service was seized.

SBU investigators served him a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (terrorist act that resulted in the death of a person).

The offender is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was conducted by the SBU Office in Zhytomyr region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Regional Prosecutor's Office.

Unfortunately, on March 6, 2024, Yurii Kozlenko was killed during a combat mission near the village of Ivanivske, Bakhmut district, Donetsk region. Now he is 25 years old forever...
