Police and SBU detain man who planted explosives under car of Odesa resident

We would like to remind you that the explosion of an Opel vehicle occurred this morning on Varnenska Street in Odesa. A 30-year-old man who was inside the car was injured.

Doctors hospitalized the victim with numerous injuries.

The SBU Office in Odesa region initiated criminal proceedings over the explosion under Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Terrorist Act).

In the course of complex investigative and operative measures, the police, together with the SBU, established in a few hours that a 22-year-old resident of Zaporizzhia was involved in the crime.

According to preliminary information, the offender received a criminal order from a hostile curator in a messenger, arrived in Odesa the day before and, on command, hid a bag with explosives under a selected vehicle for further remote detonation.
The performer was supposed to receive a monetary reward for his "work". However, he was left without the promised money and was detained by law enforcement officers at the railway station in Odesa, from where he planned to escape to his hometown.

Further investigative actions will be conducted by the SBU investigators within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings. The maximum sentence he faces is up to twelve years in prison with or without confiscation of property.

Investigators and operatives of the Odesa District Police Department No. 1, criminalists of the Investigation Department, officers of the Criminal Investigation, Criminal Analysis and Explosive Ordnance Departments of the Main Department of the National Police in Odesa region took part in the collection of evidence and detention of the offender.

SBU and National Police detain Russian intelligence agent who committed terrorist attack in Odesa on July 5 in hot pursuit

The SBU and the National Police detained an agent of the Russian special services who committed a terrorist attack in Odesa on July 5.

According to the case file, the enemy's accomplice was a previously convicted 22-year-old resident of Zaporizzhia. He was recruited through Telegram channels.

According to the investigation, the agent planted a pre-prepared improvised explosive device (IED) under the car specified by the curator, following the instructions of the Russian special service.

To ensure online video broadcasting of the explosion, the suspect installed a phone with remote access for the enemy opposite the planned terrorist attack site.

As a result of the explosion, a civilian man was injured: he sustained severe bodily injuries, and the vehicle under which the IED was located was completely destroyed.

After the explosion, the agent tried to leave Odesa region, hoping to "lay low".

However, the SBU and the National Police tracked him down and detained him in hot pursuit.

The SBU investigators served the suspect a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (terrorist act).

The enemy agent faces up to 12 years in prison.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Comprehensive measures are being taken to establish all the circumstances of the crime.

The operation was conducted by the SBU Office in Odesa region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Regional Prosecutor's Office.
