The SBU Military Counterintelligence and investigators in cooperation with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine eliminated a large-scale scheme of selling "rear" military positions in Kyiv region.

The SBU established that in return for bribes in the amount of USD 15-25 thousand, the offenders helped servicemen to transfer to units that were not involved in frontline operations.

The dealers also offered their clients dismissal from military service on the basis of fictitious certificates of "sharp deterioration of health".

As a result of complex measures, two residents of Kyiv - the organizers of the scheme - were detained in Kyiv. They engaged 5 doctors they knew to implement the scheme.

According to the case materials, the organizers of the crime found clients and organized fake hospitalization for them.

Depending on the amount of the bribe, the "patients" received the status of being restricted or unfit for military service with subsequent transfer to "non-combat" positions or dismissal.

The SBU documented the crimes of the defendants and detained the organizers of the scheme red-handed while they were transferring funds from clients.

During the searches, the SBU seized the criminally obtained cash and forged documents.

SBU investigators served the detainees a notice of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

▪ Part 1 of Art. 114-1 (obstruction of the lawful activities of the Armed Forces and other military formations during a special period);
▪ Part 3 of Art. 369-2 (abuse of influence).

The offenders face up to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property. The investigation is ongoing to bring all the offenders to justice.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office.
