Ukraine's occupied territories will remain under Russia's de facto control. Ukraine will receive some security guarantees, negotiations will mainly focus on how strong they will be. Most likely, there will be no talk of Ukraine joining NATO.

European leaders, if they can establish good communication with the White House, will persuade Washington to maintain support for Kiev so that EU countries can build up their own military capabilities.

🔵 Best-case scenario

Allies will increase military support for Ukraine and strengthen sanctions against Russia. The partners will also help Kiev develop its own defense industry and rebuild its military to serve as a major deterrent against Russia. This would open the way for Ukraine to join NATO and also strengthen the alliance's eastern flank.

🔵 Worst-case scenario

Trump will lose interest in Ukraine's future before any agreement is reached and will stop financial and military support for Kiev. In that case, the peace treaty will only be a respite before the next phase of the war.

Russia's most likely next target would be the Baltic states. If Washington refuses to join NATO forces to repel this attack, there will be a rift between the U.S. and the EU.
