The plan is being discussed among the Group of Seven countries, with the United States pushing for a deal to be struck during the G-7 leaders' meeting in Italy in June. Discussions on the topic have been difficult, they said, and an agreement could take months to reach.

The plan signals strong support from Washington after Congress approved $61 billion in aid to Kyiv in April, which had been delayed for months due to partisan disputes. The move will also increase pressure on the European Union to drop its objections to the use of frozen Russian assets.

Most European countries oppose full asset confiscation and are skeptical of proposals that they believe could undermine the stability of the euro or expose them to retaliation from Russia. The US insistence is essentially about finding a way to provide Ukraine with as much support as possible quickly, rather than in smaller amounts, by better mobilizing the proceeds of frozen assets.

According to Euroclear's first-quarter financial results, frozen Russian assets worth about €159 billion have generated net income of €557 million ($601 million) since February 15. Since last year, these assets have generated about €3.9 billion in net income.

The Russian sovereign assets held by the company could grow to €190 billion by 2028, when they turn into cash.

These assets are expected to generate about €5 billion in windfall profits annually, and a central element of the US proposal is to channel these proceeds to increase the amount of support Ukraine receives in the near term.

Найсучасніші 155-мм артилерійські боєприпаси, які Україна має або мала на озброєнні наразі, також надійшли в Україну завдяки німецькій допомозі, але не від Rheinmetall. Це були боєприпаси Vulcano в різних версіях.
