Ukrainian law enforcement officers detained the organizer of the "channel" in our country and two of his accomplices in August 2021 following a special operation in Odesa.

The drug dealers were trying to smuggle 80 kg of cocaine to the EU. They hid the contraband in refrigerated containers with bananas transported from a South American country.

During the inspection of the cargo, 100 briquettes of cocaine were found disguised in the technological cavities.

One of the suspects was detained near the seaport.

Two others were detained on the territory of the industrial market of Odesa region, where they arrived to "meet" the illegal cargo for its further transit to Western Europe.

According to the investigation, the detainees are two residents of the Balkan countries and a citizen of Ukraine, who were responsible for organizing drug trafficking in the ranks of Ndrangheta.

Based on the evidence collected by the SBU investigators, the court found the offenders guilty under Part 3 of Art. 305, Part 3 of Art. 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (smuggling of drugs in particularly large amounts, their purchase, storage and transportation for sale).

The investigation was conducted by the SBU Office in Odesa region jointly with the National Police under the supervision of the Odesa Region Prosecutor's Office.
